Making Jewellery with Wax

  • Creative Explorers Workshop 71 Fore Street Saltash, England, PL12 6AF United Kingdom (map)

£30

The technique of ‘lost wax casting’ is an ancient way of creating jewellery, where wax models are made, which then melt away in the casting process, leaving a perfect mould in which to pour molten metal.

Many jewellers use the lost wax technique as wax is a relatively inexpensive material, making it great for experimenting, and details can be carved or sculpted much easier than directly into metal.

This workshop will allow you to experiment too, using both hard and soft waxes and various different ways of shaping and carving them into pieces of jewellery.

Please note, this workshop only covers the wax stage so you will not create a wearable piece of jewellery on the day. If you would like to send your piece for casting (this is done through a professional casting house and not by me!) then I can do that for you and will let you know approximate costs/timings etc.

The joy of this workshop is definitely in the making, as wax carving and moulding can be a lovely calm way of making jewellery. It’s also great for beginners as you can’t really go wrong with wax!

If you’d like a chat with me about this workshop or would prefer to book in person, please do pop into the shop when we’re open, otherwise you can book directly by clicking the button below and selecting the wax option from the drop down list.
